The India Meteorological Department or IMD has warned of India Meteorological Department has warned of moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and hail over next few days in some states. The weather department has said that an anti-cyclonic circulation now lies over west central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal in lower tropospheric levels.

Under their influence, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms,

lightning and gusty winds very likely over Gangetic West Bengal during 17th–21st with possibility of hailstorm & squall (speed reaching 50-60 kmph) on 19th March, 2024. Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds predicted over Jharkhand, Odisha, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh during 18th-20th and Bihar during 19th-21st March, 2024. Isolated hailstorm also very likely over Vidarbha, East Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh during 18th-19th and Jharkhand and Odisha on 19th March, 2024. Isolated heavy rainfall, the IMD said, is very likely over Odisha on 19th and 20th and Chhattisgarh & Jharkhand on 19th March, 2024.

Scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during 18th-23rd March, 2024.

Scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning very likely over Telangana during 18th-21st with possibility of hailstorm over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam during 18th-21st March, 2024.

IMD’s temperature forecast

Maximum temperatures are below normal by 2-3°C over many parts of the country except over some parts of Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Northeast and south Peninsular India, where these are near normal. Hot and humid weather very likely to prevail over Kerala and Mahe, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. IMD has forecast a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-4°C very likely over Northwest India & Gujarat during next 4-5 days.
