One of the 13 parliamentary constituencies in Punjab, Patiala is scheduled to vote in Phase 7 of the Lok Sabha elections on June 1. The constituency includes eight Vidhan Sabha constituencies: Patiala Rural, Patiala, Rajpura, Samana, Ghanaur, Nabha, Sanour, and Shutrana.

Being a General category seat, the Patiala constituency seat encompasses the entire Patiala district and part of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district. The constituency has a literacy rate of 67.63%.

Polling for 13 Lok Sabha constituencies in Punjab and the lone Chandigarh seat will be held on Saturday, with INDIA bloc allies Congress and AAP contesting separately and the SAD and BJP also deciding to test the poll waters alone. Prominent candidates in the fray are four-time MP Preneet Kaur, former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, three-time MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Ravneet Singh Bittu.

For the 18th Lok Sabha elections, the BJP has fielded Preneet Kaur, the sitting MP and wife of former Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh, while the Congress has nominated Dr Dharamvir Gandhi. In the 2019 elections, the voter turnout in Patiala was 67.79%. Congress candidate Preneet Kaur won with a margin of 162,718 votes, securing 532,027 votes. She defeated Surjit Singh Rakhra of the SAD, who received 369,309 votes.
