Minister of Earth Sciences Kiren Rijiju said that the automatic weather station (AWS) report of 52.9 degree Celsius in Mungeshpur, Delhi was wrong. The India Meteorological Department conducted an investigation and found out that there was a three degree sensor error.
Rijiju chaired a committee to investigate the anomaly, which included the inspection of the AWS sensor. The report said that the error was only from the Mungeshpur weather station. Other weather stations in Delhi had reported the right temperatures. There were reports on May 29 that the temperature in Mungeshpur, Delhi had touched 52.9 degree Celsius, a record in the Delhi-NCR region. The previous highest recorded temperature was 48.4 degree Celsius on May 26, 1998.
