Rajasthan Lok Sabha election Result 2024: Will BJP score a hat-trick of clean sweeps in the state of Maharajas?

Exit polls suggest that the BJP may not achieve a clean sweep in Rajasthan’s parliamentary elections, unlike in 2014 and 2019. This time, predictions indicate that five to seven seats might be won by the opposition INDIA bloc. The final results will be known on Tuesday, following the vote counting process.

Rajasthan Lok Sabha Election Result 2024

Voting for the 25 parliamentary constituencies in Rajasthan occurred in two phases, on April 19 and 26. Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta stated that votes will be counted at 29 designated centers under strict security. Postal ballots will be counted first, followed by votes from the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Rajasthan Lok Sabha election: High Stakes

Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra expressed confidence in winning 12 to 13 seats, including Bharatpur, the hometown of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma. In contrast, Sharma maintained the BJP’s stance, asserting his party will win all 25 seats.

The results will also determine the political future of prominent leaders such as Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union ministers Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Kailash Chaudhary.

A notable contender is Vaibhav Gehlot, son of former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, who contested from the Jalore-Sirohi seat. Around 10 seats witnessed fierce electoral battles, with the Congress forging alliances with the CPI(M) in Sikar and the RLP in Nagaur while supporting the Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) in Banswara-Dungarpur. The BJP, however, contested all 25 seats independently.

Seats like Kota, Jalore, Sikar, Nagaur, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Tonk-Sawaimadhopur, Barmer, Banswara, and Jodhpur have become focal points of intense competition. In Kota, Om Birla faces direct competition from Congress’ Prahlad Gunjal. In Jodhpur, Karan Singh Uchiyarda, a Sachin Pilot loyalist, contested against Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.In Barmer, Independent candidate Ravindra Singh Bhati challenged both BJP and Congress candidates, with the BJP fielding Union minister Kailash Chaudhary. In Nagaur, Congress ally Hanuman Beniwal of the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party faced BJP’s Jyoti Mirdha, a former Congress MP.

Adhering to the Election Commission’s directives, the poll authority has implemented stringent security measures and appointed micro- and counting observers at all centers.
