Early on Sunday morning, a tragic hit-and-run incident in Mumbai claimed the life of a woman when a BMW collided with a bike. The deceased has been identified as Kaveri Nakhava, who belonged to the fishing community.

“The woman, identified as Kaveri Nakhwa (45), was travelling with her husband Pradip on the arterial Annie Besant Road when the luxury car driver lost control,” the Worli police station official said.

“Kaveri Nakhwa fell on the road. Passersby alerted police about the incident. She was rushed to civic-run Nair Hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Kaveri and her husband are fisherfolk and were on their way home from Sassoon Dock in Colaba,” he said.

The Incident
The accident occurred around 5:30 am between Atria Mall and the beginning of the coastal road. The couple, returning home after buying fish, was struck by the BMW. The impact was so severe that the woman, Kaveri Nakhava, aged 45, was thrown onto the car’s bonnet. Her husband managed to jump off the speeding vehicle, escaping with injuries.

Police Response and Investigation

Instead of stopping, the driver of the BMW continued for approximately 100 metres before fleeing the scene, as reported by TOI. Kaveri was rushed to Nair Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Worli police have initiated an investigation into the matter.Police Action and Legal Proceedings
Authorities have detained the driver and are searching for another person who was reportedly in the car at the time of the incident. The BMW has been seized for further examination by the Regional Transport Office (RTO). Legal proceedings are underway, including a medical examination to determine if the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Police are also looking into any potential political connections and ownership details related to the car.
