Julie Chrisley, Of ‘Chrisley Knows Best,’ Is Resentenced
According to Fox 35 Orlando, Julie’s resentencing occurred on Wednesday, September 25. Prosecutors reportedly advocated for the mother of three to be resentenced to her original seven-year prison term. Per WESH, Julie’s legal team reportedly hoped for her to receive a resentencing of “no more than five years.”
Alex Little, an attorney representing Julie, reportedly noted that she was a “minor player” in her criminal offenses. Additionally, Little explained that the reality star made “dramatic mistakes” but had been “well-behaved” during the 20 months she had already served behind bars.
“I apologize for my actions and what led me to where I am today,” Julie reportedly told the judge while appearing in court on Wednesday, per Fox News. “I cannot ever repay my children for what they have had to go through, and for that, I am sorry.”
Ultimately, a judge “sided with the prosecution,” per Fox 35 Orlando.
They reportedly upheld that Julie will remain in prison for a total of 84 months, or seven years. However, Fox 35 Orlando reports that Julie’s legal team plans to appeal the judge’s decision.
Savannah Chrisley Reacts
According to the outlet, Julie’s daughter, Savannah, recently took to her podcast, ‘Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley,’ to share her hope for the mother’s return.
“I hope and pray with everything that I have in me that this judge sends my mama home. I’m in such a phase of life right now of just needing my mom,” she reportedly explained.
On Wednesday, after her mother’s resentencing, Savannah shared her reaction with the press while standing alongside Little and her brother Chase. Additionally, the footage was obtained by Entertainment Tonight.
“What has happened is an injustice,” Savannah explained. “…I’m very disappointed… so we’re going to move forward with appealing this sentence, and that will happen in the next fourteen days.”
Per the outlet, Savannah also explained that she believes the judge’s re-sentencing of her mother was “politically driven” and done in apparent retaliation for her remarks at the Republican National Convention.
According to USA Today, Julie has since been returned to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
Here’s Why Julie Chrisley’s Original Prison Sentence Was Reportedly Overturned
As The Shade Room previously reported, Julie and her husband, Todd Chrisley, were convicted of a $36 million bank fraud scheme and an over $500,000 tax evasion scheme in June 2022. In November of that year, Todd received a 12-year prison sentence while Julie received seven years.
Then, in January 2023, Todd and Julie surrendered to separate prison camps. Todd reported to the Federal Prison Camp Pensacola in Florida. Meanwhile, Julie reported to the Federal Medical Center Lexington in Kentucky.
Then, in June of this year, a three-judge panel overturned Julie’s sentence, per The Shade Room. The panel reportedly determined that Julie’s initial sentencing had been “miscalculated.” Additionally, the panel reportedly questioned Julie’s involvement in the “entirety of the bank fraud scheme.”
“The district court did not identify the evidence it relied on to hold Julie accountable for losses incurred before 2007, and we cannot independently find it in the record,” the judges’ ruling reportedly asserted at the time. “So we vacate Julie’s sentence and remand solely for the district court to make the factual findings and calculations necessary to determine loss, restitution, and forfeiture as to Julie and to resentence her accordingly.”
Due to Wednesday’s ruling, Julie will reportedly return to Kentucky to serve her sentence. Per USA Today, Julie will also carry out a five-year supervised release and repay $4.7 million in restitution along with her husband.
Meanwhile, Fox News adds that Todd has had two years removed from his 12-year prison sentence. Both he and Julie will also complete 16 months of probation after their release from prison.
