The series premiere set the tone by combining a case-of-the-week mystery with the intriguing Karl and Cassandra romance.

The new photos and promo excited us for the rest of the season since everyone knows each other’s business in small towns, making these cases messy and Karl and Cassandra’s romance more entertaining.

A High School Reunion Reveals Secrets Including Murder

School reunions can bring nostalgia or buried secrets when classmates and rivals return to town for Gibson’s 50th reunion.

This week’s guest stars, Greyston Holt ( The Night Agent), Malaika Hennie-Hamadi, and Nathan Witte (Must Love Christmas), play characters in a love triangle imploding at the wrong time.

From these spoiler photos, it appears that Det. Alberg broke up an altercation where things got too heated.

Jealousy often makes people say things they regret, but it’s never wise if a cop overhears those threats.

When one of them ends up dead at the reunion, it derails the celebration when their former classmates find the body, as teased in the promo.

The others are prime suspects, but in a small-town murder investigation, nothing is at face value.

Past grudges, family secrets, and old affairs start leaking out, and the victim has more enemies than Karl counted on.

This will be one messy murder mystery with many scarred suspects, starting with those who found the body. What a way to kick off the reunion weekend.

Can Karl and Cassandra’s Relationship Withstand the Stress of Cop Emergencies?

Rossif Sutherland and Kristin Kreuk previously hinted that Karl and Cassandra’s relationship would be the series’ main draw.

Most crime procedurals don’t feature a prominent couple, so we were pleasantly surprised to see how much time they got in the series premiere.

Murder in a Small Town Season 1 Episode 1 featured the first book in the series.

Since Episode 2 appears to be adapting the fourth book, “Fall From Grace,” Karl and Cassandra may have dated longer than expected.

The promo teases that they’re considering taking their relationship public. Initially, that seemed too soon because they’d only dated for a few weeks.

However, it sounds like there was a time jump so that they may have fallen into more of a routine.

Since Cassandra has been single for so long, one of her biggest fears is that she could lose her identity and become only the police chief’s girlfriend.

She also fears that their friends will only pepper her with questions about the latest cases. That’s often funny since she often gets information without meaning to.

The promo shows them dancing at the reunion celebration. They look gorgeous and like they are reliving their prom. Cassandra still looks like the girl next door in her ravishing red gown, and Karl cleans up nicely with his dashing suit.

Will their arrival together cause gossip, or will everyone be too concerned about the murder to care?

Since school dances often bring their own blend of drama, Cassandra may learn quickly that dating a cop brings its own issues, such as formal dates not going as planned.

Will this become a serious obstacle or bring the two closer together?

It’s All Hands on Deck to Catch a Killer in Murder in a Small Town Season 1 Episode 2

When some of Cassandra’s former classmates find a dead body at the marina during the reunion weekend, Det. Karl Alberg will need everyone’s assistance.

In Murder in a Small Town, Season 1 Episode 1, only Sgt. Sid Sokolowski and Corporal Edwina Yen assisted with the case since it is often difficult to give the supporting cast equal time in a pilot.

However, the newbies, like Constable Andy Kendrick and Isabella, will have much more to do with this investigation, such as scoping out the reunion for suspects, interviewing witnesses, and gathering evidence.

Like Cassandra, Isabella (Savonna Sprackin) grew up in Gibson, so she might have additional insight into suspects and motives.

She may know who used to date each other or had issues with each other years ago, which could be helpful.

We’d enjoy seeing Isabella, Corporal Edwina Yen, and Andy Kendrick develop more as characters and become friends. Since this episode focuses so much on the reunion, adding some witty scenes is ideal.

In small towns, everyone is into everyone’s business. If someone leaks Karl and his team the proper intel, this could help break their case.

Murder in a Small has been formatted so that most episodes focus on a singular novel, so there won’t be much continuity from week to week, except for developing Karl and Cassandra’s relationship.

Check out the promo for what’s upcoming this season.
