More Details On The Charges Against The 10-Year-Old Minnesota Boy

According to Fox News, authorities identified the 10-year-old as the driver of the stolen vehicle on Thursday, October 3. Subsequently, the child was arrested and taken into custody at Hennepin County Juvenile Detention.

The outlet adds that he was reportedly been charged with “reckless driving and receiving stolen property.” Due to the child’s age, he will reportedly be appointed a psychologist who will determine if he is “competent” and “capable of assisting” his lawyers with his defense.

The psychologist will share their opinion with the judge, who will make a final decision. Additionally, if the child is not found competent, he will reportedly be released from custody, and “the case will either be dismissed or suspended.”

Fox News adds that the 10-year-old has a history of car theft and has reportedly been arrested in two other separate incidents. The child and his family are reportedly cooperating with authorities.

“It is unfathomable that a 10-year-old boy has been involved in this level of criminal activity without effective intervention. Prison is not an acceptable option for a 10-year-old boy. But the adults who can stop this behavior going forward must act now to help this child and his family,” Minneapolis police chief Brian O’Hara told reporters per ABC7 Los Angeles.
