There could be more 9-1-1 on the horizon, and the possibilities surrounding that are endless.
When news broke via Variety recently that Ryan Murphy was working on another spinoff of the popular first responder procedural that would potentially come in the wake of 9-1-1: Lone Star officially ending its run over five seasons, many thoughts came to mind.
Fans were delighted to hear that there could be more 9-1-1 to devour, but the scarce details left many wondering what exactly the latest spinoff would entail.
Would one of the original characters from the original series or Lone Star find their way over to the new spinoff so audiences already knew a familiar face? Or would this new series feature a brand-new cast?
Would they keep the same setup as the others or switch things up?
And the most important question of all: what city would the spinoff take place in?
Many American cities would make for a marvelous new adventure, and some make more sense than others. But that won’t stop me from compiling a list of the top seven cities I’d like to see the next set of first responders settle in!

New York
The Big Apple is a rather obvious choice because it’s New York, and we’ve seen countless first responder shows take place there over the years.
But 9-1-1 isn’t like any other show. It just began its eighth season on the original series with a bee-nado that caused a midair collision between a commercial airplane and a smaller plane.
You won’t see that anywhere else on television.
As one of the most heavily populated cities in the world, there would be no shortage of emergencies that could take place. And think of all the landmarks they could have fun with around that vast city.
Think emergencies near some of the prominent landmarks (because there won’t be an emergency inside the Statue of Liberty — that’s not good for business!) or an engagement gone wrong on the steps of the MET.
The big emergencies to kick off the season may require some imagination, but if there’s one thing we’ve come to expect from the franchise, it’s over-the-top action that may not be wholly realistic but will entertain.
And that’s what television is all about.
Boston
The franchise took a trip to Boston during 9-1-1 Season 5 Episode 12, in which Chimney visited an old friend from the 118 after getting a tip about Maddie’s whereabouts after she left Los Angeles.
If the decision were made to take the show to Boston, you already have Eli there, who could serve as a link to the original show and would provide a good reason for another crossover down the line.
Chimney could come to town again to visit (backdoor pilot, anyone?), and from there, we could have him helping out the firehouse and introducing us to the new cast via a familiar face.
In addition to those possibilities, Boston is another historic city with a litany of popular attractions that would serve as great backdrops for emergencies.
Of all the cities in the country, Boston’s truly the only one with a built-in connection to the OG 118 house, and that would be a great starting point for a new chapter in the franchise.
Miami
Welcome to Miami!
I don’t know what kind of five-alarm fires break out in Miami regularly. Still, sunshine, beach vibes, tourists galore, and money could equal many emergency situations for a fire department.
Hell, when you spell it out like that, it sounds kind of like Los Angeles.
But given the beach access, there could be a lot of overlap with EMT services, and it would make for a fascinating look at the first responders we’re used to, alongside lifeguards.
Beach crime rings? Late-night shenanigans during spring break?
The stories write themselves!
Las Vegas
If the franchise wants to stay out west, then Sin City would be an obvious choice given the many different things they could explore, from emergencies up and down the strip to expanding into the desert.
Casinos probably see a decent amount of activity, from minor medical injuries to criminal mischief.
Do you remember the Josh Duhamel series Las Vegas? There was always SOMETHING happening at that fake hotel, and bringing in the firefighter and dispatch element has much potential.
So many facets make a casino go, and there’s room for emergencies at every single one!
And outside the strip, there is a vast desert and room for all kinds of things to go wrong, which is at the core of every 9-1-1 series.
Viva Las Vegas!
New Orleans
Can you imagine all the emergencies on Bourbon Street?
Or in a swamp?
Depending on how they chose to showcase it, the Big Easy would provide a very different backdrop from what we’re used to, as it wouldn’t have the feel of a big city.
We’ve seen shows take place there before, with the spinoff NCIS: New Orleans being the one that comes to mind first. That show did a great job of showcasing the city beautifully, and 9-1-1 could also do that.
New Orleans is a great, underrated American city, and if they’re looking to do another Southern city, they could do worse.
Nowheresville, USA
It’s doubtful that 9-1-1 would choose a no-name location for a spinoff when the new location will be part of what attracts a new audience.
You’d be surprised how many people will tune into a show simply because it takes place in the city they live in or a city they enjoy and want to see portrayed on screen.
But imagine for a second that they chose to settle in a town or city most people were unfamiliar with and then use that lack of knowledge to make that town their own.
I’m not saying they make something up, but a smaller, lesser-known city could be fun to explore and introduce a new audience to something different.
It would be fun to see emergencies littered around familiar American landmarks, but it might also be cool to see something never done before.
There’s beauty in the familiar, but there’s also beauty in the unknown.
Philadelphia
This is a purely self-indulgent pick because I love the City of Brotherly Love, the birthplace of US Democracy!
Considering it’s a major market in the United States, it can sometimes feel like there aren’t many shows that take place in the city. Of course, there is Abbott Elementary and Alert: Missing Persons Unit currently, but can you think of any other long-running dramas that have taken place there in recent years?
Philadelphia is a beautiful, large city, much like Los Angeles and Austin. It has both a city aspect and a more “suburban-like” surrounding area.
It’s also known for its food, so maybe the firefighters have a local cheesesteak place they like to visit after a long shift. This would make a cute set piece for the series, and who doesn’t love a cute set piece?
The world could always use more cute set pieces!
