Bon Iver have released their new SABLE, EP. With the release, they’ve shared new music videos for “Things Behind Things Behind Things” and “Awards Season.” Both of the moody, black-and-white visuals were directed by Erinn Springer, who also helmed the visual for “S P E Y S I D E.” Justin Vernon, once again, stars in the new clips; check those out below.

SABLE, is Bon Iver’s first new record in over five years—and their first EP since 2009. Vernon wrote the autobiographical triptych at different points in his life: “Things Behind Things Behind Things” dates back to 2020, while in a period of creative uncertainty; he penned “S P E Y S I D E” the following year, in Key West, during a moment of clarity following extensive anxiety; and “Awards Season,” which contains a sample of Phil Cook and Amelia Meath’s “Miles Away,” was conceived during long walks around Minneapolis’ Lake of the Isles in 2023.

Vernon produced SABLE, with Jim-E Stack. They recorded the EP at Vernon’s April Base studio in Wisconsin. SABLE, features contributions from pedal steel player Greg Leisz, multi-instrumentalist Michael Lewis, trumpeter Trever Hagen, synthesizer player Eli Teplin, arranger and string instrumentalist Rob Moose, and others.

Since releasing 2019’s i,i, Bon Iver issued a handful of singles such as “PDLIF,” “AUATC,” “Second Nature,” “So Unimportant,” with Ethan Gruska, and, with the National, “Weird Goodbyes.” Vernon also featured on Taylor Swift’s “Exile” and “Evermore” and the Japanese House’s “Dionne.” Last year, Bon Iver joined Zach Bryan on “Boys of Faith.”
