NEW YORK (PINNYC) — The 248th Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of New York passed all resolutions presented by the New York City chapter of the Episcopal Peace Fellowship Palestine Israel Network (PIN) in response to the International Court of Justice finding of a plausible case of genocide against the Palestinian people by the State of Israel.
PIN presented three resolutions in solidarity with Indigenous Palestinian Christians:
Recommending the Ecumenical Christian Kairos Palestine Document for Parish Study
In line with the calls of Palestinian Christians’ cry for hope, love, prayer, and faith in God, the Diocese supported the resolution recommending parish study of the Kairos Palestine Document. Many attendees of Diocesan Convention also received paper study guides from the Presbyterian Church-USA which can be purchased online.
Application of the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society No-Buy List to Diocesan Investments
The Convention voted to pass the measure to adopt responsible and ethical investment policies recommended by the National Church’s Executive Council’s Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility. This includes removing funds from a list of companies profiting from weapons of war, fossil fuels, tobacco, private prisons, and human rights violations.
On Investment in Companies Participating in Occupation and Human Rights Violations
In light with Christian values of striving for justice and respecting the dignity of all, as expressed in our Baptismal Covenant and the call to ‘contend against evil and to make no peace with oppression’ (page 260, Book of Common Prayer), the Diocesan Convention also voted in favor of divestment from four additional companies not currently on the DFMS No-buy list. The four companies selected provide surveillance and weapons technologies used in the military occupation of Palestine: General Electric Co, Palantir Technologies Inc, Hangzhou HikVision Digital Technology Co Ltd, and TKH Group NV.
