Amsterdam-based electronic producer Nazar has announced his first new album in five years. Demilitarize, the follow-up to Guerrilla, will arrive on April 25 via Hyperdub. Today, the Angolan musician has shared the lead single “Anticipate,” which you can listen to below.

“With the album being introspective, I didn’t seek to capture sounds from real places to enhance it’s universe like on Guerilla,” Nazar explained in a statement. “I wanted to make it almost metaphysical like creating sci-fi, with classic cyberpunk anime Ghost in the Shell being a core inspiration.”

After releasing Guerrilla, Nazar contracted COVID-19 and his weakened immune system allowed his dormant tuberculosis diagnosis—which he’d incubated while living in Angola—to take over his body, leaving him gravely ill for a year. Being forced to grapple with his own mortality, as well as a bourgeoning romance fueling him with love, inspired Nazar to create Demilitarize.
