LG Innotek will provide the whole initial supply of telephoto camera sensors for the iPhone 16 Pro phones.
According to a report by the media outlet The Elec, the Korean component manufacturer received the full order for the first batch of folded-zoom modules, and will also provide the OIS actuator in partnership with Jahwa Electronics.
Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max and its 5x Tetraprism camera
The first order of telephoto camera sensors for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max is “well over half of them,” and some reports are claiming the amount is about 70% of all forecasted sales. The rest of the sensors will be manufactured in Q4 2024 by Foxconn and Cowell as Apple attempts to drive the average cost down.
LG Innotek was the sole provider of the modules last year for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Sharp was expected to join the mix this year but the Japanese company pulled out, the report added. This year, both the Pro and the Pro Max will get the Tetraprism camera, which has a 5x optical zoom.
