Roommates, Big Meech is reportedly one step closer to being home. The Shade Room recently received confirmation from a Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesperson about the status of Demetrius Flenory’s imprisonment as of Tuesday (Oct. 15).

What To Know About Big Meech’s Transfer

The co-founder of the Black Mafia Family has been transferred from FCI Coleman prison in Florida to community confinement. HuffPost Editor Phil Lewis first reported the transfer on X on Oct. 16.

Community confinement, in his case, could indicate home confinement or confinement to a halfway house. Additionally, his inmate record indicates that he’s no longer in “BOP custody,” meaning the Federal Bureau of Prisons. A spokesperson confirmed the same information to The Shade Room via phone and in an emailed statement.

“On October 15, 2024, Demetrius Flenory transferred from the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Coleman Low to community confinement overseen by the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ Miami Residential Reentry Management (RRM) Office. Community confinement means the individual is in either home confinement or a Residential Reentry Center (RRC, or halfway house). For privacy, safety, and security reasons, we do not disclose an individual’s specific location in community confinement,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, TMZ reports that the confinement will be in a halfway house. Furthermore, The Shade Room contacted Lil Meech Jr. for comment about his father’s reported release but has yet to hear back from the actor.

TSR also contacted Big Meech’s lawyer, Brittany Barnett, for comment, who did not offer on-the-record comment. However, in a quote to TMZ, Barnett reportedly said she’s “overjoyed” at his freedom after nearly 20 years behind bars. Additionally, she reportedly said he spent his time locked up on his personal growth.

Here’s A Recap Of His Charges

Big Meech was first arrested in 2005, along with more than 100 others, in a well-known drug bust, per VIBE. Federal investigators accused Meech and his brother, Terry Lee “Southwest Tee” Flenory, of making more than $270 million in cocaine sales across the country. They allegedly created the Black Mafia Family and positioned it as a label and creative agency to wash their earnings.

In 2008, the court sentenced Big Meech to 30 years in prison for drug trafficking, money laundering, and conspiracy charges. Earlier this year, reports surfaced of Meech’s possible early release, and 32 months were dropped from his sentence, per Hot 97. In February, his son Lil Meech told ‘The Morning Hustle’ hosts that his father was at FCI Coleman, a low-security facility.

Despite this latest transfer, it’s unclear if and when Meech could be fully released. The 56-year-old’s release date on his inmate record is Jan. 27, 2026, which the BOP spokesperson confirmed is accurate and admitted could be updated periodically.
