A. Sutherland – AncientPages.com – Many frightening monsters haunt the woods of North America, but none is more terrible than the Windigo (also Wendigo (Witiko), the very incarnation of terror.
Found in the Native American folklore since Aboriginal times, the Windigo is a hideous, murderous, and cruel hermit with a malformed body that lives lurking in the forests and is often hungry for human flesh.
The Wendigo has the power to possess a human being, and so it can alter its victim to become a cannibal. One old belief is that those who commit sins such as selfishness, greed, or cannibalism are transformed into Wendigos as punishment.
